I'm still alive... barely.
September and October were really busy months and I have't really got much to show for it. I've just finished exams for the year and am moving onto work placements in summer.
I finally bought a new sketchbook (I didn't have one for about six months, which was kind of sad) and hopefully will be drawing more over summer.
I'm hoping to update this place a little more in the coming months, it's going to be more of a sketchbook rather than a place for completed works, because truthfully I don't get to finish a lot of things anymore.

September 2008 (acrylics on canvas) GAX September for
zyleeth of Allygrpyh, a doe/dove hybrid. Bigger version here
This was painted on a 5x7" canvas card. I broke out the acrylics for the first time in about 3years to do a proper painting (as in, not on a sculpture). A little rusty but I am pleased with it considering it's been so long since I've painted like that. It was a very lovely subejct and a pleasure to draw. That blue paint has some metallic highlights in it and is actually deeper IRL.
My main critique about this is the badness of the front legs and the (once again) boring generic lighting - I would have liked to throw in some yellow lighting but it was already too late when I realised.
Very happy with the background, since I have had so little practice with them.

November 2008 (Ink and photoshop) GAX November for
dragontalon666 of Xerxes the shapeshifter
I LOVE reptillian gryphs and it was great to get some practice at it. Xerxes had a lot of intricate details which I didn't get around to but it was a blast drawing him. DT666 allowed me to choose the colours for the character and I based it very loosely on a Blue Dachnis (bird) before it shifted and took its own form. I totally didn't mean to come so close to my own pengryphun, Kreb. (But it gave me an idea for a future piece)
I also totally ran out of time for a background, I wish I could have this complete and digital, like Soriel the hippogryph from last year.
Continuing with my goals from the previous six months, I'm playing with colours. The theme here is primary colours.
My main critique: That right wing. I hate it so much when I notice things when I've finalise things and posted it everywhere. I messed up the perspective and it looks worse when painted, so that bit you can see next to the head sticks out painfully. It really, really annoys me but I can't change it without changing the balance of the forequarters. Dammit.
In fact, the whole wing anatomy is just bad.
But hey, it looks pretty and I'll do more Xerxes art later.

June 2008 (Ink and photoshop) Random blue hippy
Yep, I started this in June and only just finished it. It's a random hippogryph that pranced onto my sketchpad a little while back. I started colouring it months ago, shaded it and only got around to finalising it now.
The main thing I'm playing with here is colour. It was interesting to go to a palette I'm less familiar with. I also tried to do less generic lighting which didn't work and I just gave up on it. Truthfully, it was just a bit of a playful piece where I wasn't trying very hard. I can't be bothered fixing it and probably never will.
I realised how much it looks like my deer/cockerel Buk, but with completely opposing colours.
Critique: The wings are WRONG. I've got to force myself not to do wings like that. Legs: I don't think they'll work when he's running along on the ground. Lighting: Wtf.
Love: That face. The colours. So pretty.
Yeah... I kind of like floofiness :)

September 2008 (pen) Lore the wolf/dragon
And now for a sketch. This is for Lore, who is having a rough time at the moment. Just a light sketch. I like to think my canine anatomy is improving a little. I can see there's something not quite right about the neck/chest/leg configuration though.
Mega chest poofy O.o
New quest: Make characters face the other way and use a different angle.
Enjoy.
