Look! Actual arts!
I have this, uh, condition where if I cram and then go straight to bed I get really disturbing dreams and stay really light so sometimes I'm awake and other times dreaming and it's hard to tell the difference. So I always try to distract myself before sleep with something distinictly different - to create and not to be on the receiving end of external output.
The following are my late night scratchings. They are mainly studies into colour and blending as I'm using the markers to figure out how colours work. So I'm well aware of the generic left lateral poses being predominant in my work. Also - photography of marker work = badness. It's much more vibrant and smooth IRL.
And look, I updated my watermark for the year! Late, but I got there.

June 2008 (Ink, Copics) Random hippy.
I love these guys. They just appear on my paper and I have no idea where they come from. They all seem to have their own personalities too. I really like this guy, his personality just came through perfectly :)
I hate that when I 'refine' a piece from its pencil sketch it always seems to lose something.
Anyway, at the beginning of this piece, just before I picked up the colour, I said to myself, "Alright! I'm going to do something different! I'm going to steer away from my comfort zone and do something new!"
Freaking hell. I don't know how, even having said that at the outset, I managed to gravitate back to my familiar red, orange and yellow range! Argh. It just seems to come naturally to me. I suddenly realised right at the end and threw all this other stuff onto it.
Things I learnt:
-Pink and red with orange as a midtone: Don't do it.
-Pink and yellow: Very suprising... yet also very pleasing.
Slowly learning more about that stuff.
Critique on a late night doodle, well, darn hindlegs, still trying to get them right.

June 2008 (Ink, Copics) See Flix dance!
This was done as a bit of random gift art for Flix, who I met at Midfur last year. I haven't shown it to her yet since I'm waiting for a proper scan. The photography did something weird. Her feathers are a really lovely blueish purple with pink-violet highlights and deep navy shadows that just didn't show through on this.
Bit of bad anatomy/perspective but really digging the raptor legs.

June 2008 (Ink, Copics) Pinky!
Really stepping outside my normal range here. But I really really like the combination. I hadn't been planning it, I was thinking about that nice pink and yellow combo I used on the hippy above. Then this popped up. Then I made mistakes, shrugged and ran with it, and then repeated that until this end product. I was really pleased until I made one last mistake that I think messed the whole thing up. Shall I elaborate? Well, I'm not sure if it's detectable if you haven't seen what it originally was like, and considering how many of the ones I ended up liking are in there, maybe it's not worth the mention. Argh. Wish I could take it back though.
Lupogryphs are win.
See, I can vaguely do carnivore hindlegs now. And did I mention how much I love bird feet?
There are also metallic highlights in the ears, eyes and necklace.
SLEEPNEEDNOW. There are other things I was going to post, both recent and oldish, but those are for another night.
